Scientific laboratories in IBT:
Laboratory of Ligand Engineering
Head: Petr Malý
The laboratory is focusing on Design and rational improvement of high-affinity-binding recombinant ligand proteins for use in applications in which antibodies fail.
Head: Bohdan Schneider
We study intermolecular interactions between biomolecules, proteins and nucleic acids, by biophysical and bioinformatic tools. We concentrate on aspects of interactions leading to specific recognition of biomolecules with potential diagnostic, medical or biotechnological use.
Laboratory of Structural Biology
Head: Cyril Bařinka
Activity is directed to the field of structural biology and the structure-function relationship of diagnostic/therapeutic targets. Structure-based drug design is aimed at the identifi cation and development of small-molecule compounds targeting solid tumors and neurodegenerative conditions.
Laboratory of Reproductive Biology
Head: Jana Pěknicova
The Laboratory is characterizing processes and molecular players involved in egg fertilization process and developing tools (monoclonal antibodies) for detection of male infertility, as well as for detection of selected environmental pollutants with a negative effect on mammalian reproduction.
Laboratory of Imunopathology and Imunotherapy
Head: Šárka Růžičková
The laboratory is focusing on humoral and genetic aspects in autoimmune diseases and identification of target molecules for therapeutic intervention and tools for new diagnostics for autoimmune diseases.
Laboratory of Molecular Therapy
Head: Jiří Neužil
The laboratory is focusing on design and development of novel anti-cancer agents, in particular, vitamin E analogues efficient and selective for malignant cells, with a particular emphasis on molecular mechanism of apoptosis caused by such agents through mitochondrial destabilization.
Laboratory of Gene Expression
Head: Mikael Kubista
Laboratory of gene expression is developing tools for spatiotemporal analysis of gene expression by high-throughput quantitative real-time PCR approaches on single cell and sub-cellular level, including multi-dimensional data analysis
Laboratory of Molecular Pathogenetics
Head: Gabriela Pavlinkova
The goal of our research is to understand the molecular causes of abnormal embryonic development. We use animal models and gene expression profiling to identify the molecular targets for the development of preventive and diagnostic strategies.
Head: Jaroslav Truksa
The laboratory of Tumour resistance has been newly established at the IBT ASCR v.v.i in 2013. There are several research topics under investigation, mainly focusing on a distinct population of cancer cells referred to as the tumour-initiating cells (TICs) or cancer stem cells (CSCs).
