Radomír Pánek, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Visits the Institute of Biotechnology

On June 9, 2026, Radomír Pánek, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, visited the Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The meeting was part of a series of visits to Czech Academy of Sciences institutions aimed at fostering direct dialogue with institute leadership and staff.

On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Radomír Pánek, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and Miroslava Anděrová, Vice President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, visited the Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. They were accompanied by Dita Hladíková, Head of the Protocol Department. The guests were received by Institute Director Bohdan Schneider, who introduced them to the Institute’s activities and current direction. The introductory discussion was also attended by Zdeněk Lánský, holder of an ERC Synergy Grant, Institute Secretary Martina Plisová, and Head of THS Jan Škoda. “I appreciate the substantive and constructive debate we had, which we will continue. I am pleased to see that the Academy has a clear direction,” said the IBT Director.

The visit’s program continued with a meeting with staff, which, given the international setting, was conducted in English. The open discussion during this meeting demonstrated the broader intention of the Czech Academy of Sciences’ leadership to engage in direct dialogue with individual institutes.

During his presentation and the subsequent discussion, Radomír Pánek addressed current topics related to the functioning of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He spoke about its structure, funding, and strategic direction, addressed the importance of academic evaluation for individual institutes, and outlined the activities of the Science for Policy platform. The discussion also covered the development of cooperation with universities, grant agencies, and industrial partners, as well as the Czech Academy of Sciences’ new communication strategy, including its new visual identity.

The program also included a tour of selected departments at the institute. Guests visited the Center for Molecular Structure and learned about its service capabilities and technological infrastructure for research. The program concluded with a joint lunch.
