The BIOCEV centre hosted the 28th Biological Days of the Czech-Slovak Biological Society on 25–26 November 2025. This year’s meeting, focused on reproductive biology, oncofertility, and oncology, attracted nearly 160 participants, ranging from students and early-career researchers to established scientific leaders.
Over the course of two days, attendees presented 42 scientific contributions, including 20 oral presentations and 18 posters. The opening keynote lecture was delivered by Prof. Ondřej Slabý, who discussed the application of advanced genomics in diagnosing ultra-rare diseases and its growing role in precision oncology. The subsequent thematic sessions showcased a broad spectrum of current research approaches in reproductive biology.
The second day began with a lecture by Prof. Jiří Neužil, who introduced horizontal mitochondrial transfer as a new hallmark of cancer, setting the stage for sessions dedicated to modern directions in tumour biology.
As in previous years, outstanding scientists and young researchers were recognized for their contributions. The Babák Medal was awarded to Prof. Jaroslav Petr for his significant achievements in the field of animal reproductive biology. In his lecture, he presented new insights into the impact of micro- and nanoplastics on reproductive processes.

The Studnička Award for the best student presentation went to Michal Boček (Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University) for his work on the role of the microbiome in oncology. Natálie Klímová (IAPG CAS) received the Best Poster Award for her research on the effects of thermal stress on oocyte developmental competence.
This year’s Biological Days once again highlighted the importance of international collaboration, interdisciplinary dialogue, and support for the next generation of researchers in biomedical sciences.
